Il Colosseo

Camera: Pentax K10D. The Colosseum, Rome, Italy.

The Colosseum was naturally one of the must-see destinations of Rome. Built by the Emperor Flavian, it was not actually called the Colosseum, but the Flavian Amphitheatre. It garnered the name Colosseum due to the statue of the Colossus that was once on the site. Remarkable memory these Romans have! at any rate, the Colosseum is a remarkable tale of resilience. Despite Germans raiding it for metal and Renaissance architects mining it for marble, it has withstood the test of time.

I think that probably just about does it for Rome. I will throw some more stuff from there on my Flickr stream (well, I already have. You can find a Rome set on there). However, there's still Tuscany to see, as well as Florence and Venice, so unless people want to spend a half-year on Italy, I'd best move on!
