Union Station

Camera: Pentax K10D. Union Station, Ottawa, ON.

Union Station sits at the heart of downtown Ottawa, alongside the Rideau Canal. One of many Union stations throughout North America, it shared the same architects - McKim, Mead and White - as New York's Penn Station, and the same basic design. The National Capital Commission decommissioned it in 1966 as part of its policy of removing rail in the city core. The building was spared demolition, only because of the Queen's visit for Canada's centennial celebrations in 1967, since there wouldn't have been sufficient time to redevelop a key piece of land like this in the downtown core.
