Looking Back On Progress

I find it ironic that sometimes we have to go to cities that are in absolute crisis to actually find good urban form. Narrow highrises such as this one are a rarity in Toronto, but seem more prevalent in American cities. I think a city can achieve high densities with medium-rise form that is much more humane in its scale. However, this building found in downtown Buffalo, is a good example of how you can go higher without creating massive, faceless monoliths like we build today. Its footprint is no bigger than a 5 or 6 storey building, and it actually has a pleasant character.
